The history and development of the collection is shown extensively in the video that is easily available on the Internet. Each of these 17 “works of art on wheels” is designed by a famous international artist and the video pays great tribute to these artists along with amazing photos of the art cars. The virtual museum also features statements from each of the artists and never-seen-before racing footage. Several arts and culture experts also contribute statements that can be viewed on the video.

According the Head of the BMW Group Corporate Strategy and Communications Bills McAndrews, the virtual video enables everyone to see all of the 17 BMW Art Cars after four decades. The German luxury car brand has created a special website (www.bmw-artcartour.com) that is solely dedicated to the BMW Art Car collection, all 17 of them, its designers, history, and the arts and culture that inspired them.

These art cars are featured individually at the BMW Museum in Munich. Some are even featured on several cultural institutions worldwide but through the virtual museum, everyone in the world can see them as a massive art collection anytime, anywhere, and for free.

Among the art cars that were featured consist of Frank Stella’s graph-paper 3.0 CSL and Roy Lichtenstein’s 1977 Group 5 320i with its amazing and rowdy wing and body works. Aside from that, the exhibit will also feature Robert Rauschenburg’s 1986 6-series BMW and the 1979 Group 4 M1 in which the famous Andy Warhol had flourished with his amazing paint job techniques.

These legends that marked automotive history raced with sophistication with their new looks courtesy of the Le Mans. The Robert Rauschenburg’s 1986 6-series was not really a sports car. It just carries a conventional style with a compressed work on its features.

These art cars will be put into exhibit in different locations in a given limited time and the abovementioned cars will always be welcoming the location’s entrance steps. First, these cars were placed at the BP entrance of the museum on Wilshire Boulevard. The exhibit was for free.

From March 24 to April 26 of this year, the cars will be moved from Los Angeles to Grand Central Station. Then from this station, they will head to their next destination to Mexico which will cover three cities for their display.

According to BMW, they have just released 16 cars for this exhibit. They actually intended to give out 17 and is looking for an artist to make some works.

How do they do it? STRINGS. Ha!
